Ontario's Environmental Commissioner Delivers Straight Talk on Waste
Diversion
Toronto, Ontario, July 27, 2010 – The Association
of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) applauds the Environmental
Commissioner Gord Miller’s Special Report on Ontario’s Plan for Municipal
Hazardous or Special Waste. The
Report provides straight talk on the urgent need to divert
hazardous household waste from landfills, and the wisdom of holding
industry stewards – not taxpayers – responsible for the

Accessibility Standards
The Government of Ontario’s’ commissioned report, Releasing Constraints: Projecting the Economic
Impacts of Increased Accessibility on Ontario’s
Economy, examines the broad, beneficial economic
impacts on individuals, markets and society of implementing the AODA,
specifically, the current five standards. However, AMO asks
how implementation costs of standards may affect Martin Prosperity
Institute analysis. |

Water Opportunities and Water Conservation Act
The intent of the proposed Act is to establish a framework to drive
innovation, create economic opportunities, sustain water infrastructure

(CMOH) has just released a synopsis of existing scientific
evidence on the potential health impact of noise generated by wind

AMO Seeks Liability Reform
AMO presented its paper on joint and several liability
reform to the Attorney General’s Office highlighting how
municipalities have become the targets of litigation when other
defendants do not have the means to pay high damage awards. The
price communities are paying is steep. Municipalities should not be
