About AMO

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is proud of its work to make municipal governments stronger and more effective. Through AMO, Ontario’s 444 municipalities work together to achieve shared goals and meet common challenges.

Through our policy development, cost-saving programs, conferences and training opportunities, AMO provides municipal officials with tools to succeed, and programs to help maximize taxpayer dollars.

AMO’s mandate is to support and enhance strong and effective municipal government in Ontario. It promotes the value of the municipal level of government as a vital and essential component of Ontario and Canada's political system.

Our vision statement is: In Ontario’s municipalities, people and families can live, thrive and prosper in the communities they call home, and children will have the choice and opportunity to live and work in the communities where they were raised.

The 2020 AMO Conference

The AMO Conference has, for more than 100 years, been a critically important resource for municipal leaders. In 2020, more than ever, AMO members, partners and stakeholders need a forum to come together and share experiences, strategize and plan for a strong future.

The COVID-19 pandemic means this year’s conference will be different. For the first time ever, it’s being held entirely online. With more than 1300 people expected to participate, it will be Canada’s largest gathering of government leaders since the pandemic began.

Everything that delegates expect from the annual conference will be available virtually this year.
  • Featured presenters include Premier Doug Ford, Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath, new Ontario Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca, and Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario.
  • Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark, Minister of Health Christine Elliott, Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott, and Federal Minister of Infrastructure Catherine McKenna are also on the program.
  • Ministers will take part in three Ministers’ Forums.
  • Numerous plenary sessions will be held, including the first ever Women’s Leadership Forum, the PJ Marshall Awards, the Federal Gas Tax Awards, and a TVO-hosted panel on the Path to Economic Recovery in Ontario.
  • Municipal staff and officials will take part in more than 460 delegation meetings with provincial officials.
  • There will be elections for several board positions, including the role of AMO President.
The 2020 AMO Conference will be Canada’s most comprehensive gathering of government leaders since the global pandemic began. For more information about AMO or the 2020 Conference, contact:
