Launched at the 2005 AMO Annual Conference, AMO's $3 Billion Gap campaign has been successful in getting the attention of the Government and Opposition parties.

The government agreed to work with AMO to review provincial-municipal fiscal arrangements.

It has been successful in better informing municipalities and property tax payers about the amount of property taxes that are used to subsidize provincial programs in Ontario every year. Despite some improvements in cost sharing arrangements, the provincial-municipal fiscal gap has grown to $3.9 billion a year, and its consequences continue to undermine the sustainability and competitiveness of Ontario’s communities.
