Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about federal Gas Tax Fund communications.

Construction Signage

Project Signage

The federal government is currently working on new signage requirements for Gas Tax funded projects. AMO expects to receive more information in March 2016. Until the new requirements are finalized, you do not need to install new project signs. If your project already has a sign in place there is no need to remove it.

Events & News Releases

What triggers an announcement?

Municipalities are required to have regular announcements to feature projects that benefit from the federal Gas Tax Fund. AMO has resources available to help plan and execute a media event, issue a news release or coordinate other communications opportunities. An announcement may celebrate a milestone related to a specific project, such as a groundbreaking or completion event. A municipality may also choose to issue one news release to announce various projects that will be using Gas Tax funds within the municipality.

Please contact us at least 15 working days in advance if you are planning an announcement.

When do I have to notify the federal government of an event or announcement?

Infrastructure Canada requires a minimum of 15 working days’ notice prior to an event or announcement, which will give all orders of government the opportunity to plan their level of involvement. Please contact us.

Do municipalities have to develop communications materials?

No. Media products are developed by Infrastructure Canada. Please note that Infrastructure Canada requires a minimum of 15 working days’ notice prior to an event or announcement, which will give all orders of government the opportunity to plan their level of involvement. Please contact us.

What are the criteria for communications materials? Are templates available?

Media products are developed by Infrastructure Canada. All communications must clearly acknowledge the contributions made by the Government of Canada, including the use of the "Canada" wordmark and tagline. As well, all communication material must be in both English and French. Please contact us.

Do all communications materials (e.g. press releases) need approval? If yes, by whom?

Yes. All communications materials need the approval of Infrastructure Canada. Please contact us.

What are the guidelines for going to tender? Should the "Canada" wordmark be included?

No. The Government of Canada is not involved in project selection in terms of the Gas Tax and adding the "Canada" wordmark to tenders would imply otherwise.

Our municipality would like our MP to be involved in our event, how do I go about organizing this? How can we get all three levels of government involved?

Please contact us a minimum of 15 working days prior to an event or announcement to facilitate all orders of government the opportunity to plan their level of involvement.

What is the impact of a municipal / provincial / federal election?

For those elections that will affect your community, we ask that you postpone your event until after the election has taken place.
