AMO expressed support for the Early Years Centres and Early Years Plan announced by Hon. John Baird, Minister of Community and Social Services and Hon. Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
"Municipalities fully support the provincial investment in our younger children.  It is clear that investing in a good start is an investment in the future," said Mulvale.  "These new programs will compliment what already exists in many of our communities."

The money for the $114 million announcement comes from the federal government Canada Health and Social Transfer.  In leading up to the transfer, AMO lobbied the Province to allocate a portion of the $114 million federal funding to child care services. While additional money for child services is welcomed, we also need financial support for child care and we will continue to press for this," said Mulvale.

Municipalities agree that these new initiatives and all income redistribution programs should be the responsibility of the Province.  AMO is pleased that these new initiatives will be at 100% provincial funding.

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is a non-profit organization with member municipalities representing 98 per cent of Ontario's population.
