Toronto, Ont., November 28, 2002 – In response to the release of the Romanow Report today, AMO calls upon the federal and provincial governments to roll up their sleeves.
AMO President Ken Boshcoff, providing initial comment on the Report, said,  "Romanow outlines a plan that needs to move forward - the time for debate is over, the time for action is now."

Municipal governments hear first-hand about the health care concerns of citizens, which is why AMO appeared before the Romanow Commission earlier this year.  Municipalities have often been put in the position of finding and financing local solutions to provincial and federal health care responsibilities.  "That void shouldn't be filled by municipal government," said Boshcoff,  "The public and Ontario's municipalities are looking for real and immediate solutions and the assuredness of a longer term funding strategy.  The health of communities is too important for it to be caught in federal-provincial governmental wrangling."

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is a non-profit organization with member municipalities representing 98 per cent of Ontario’s population.  AMO supports and enhances strong and effective municipal government in Ontario and promotes the value of municipal government as a vital and essential component of Ontario and Canada’s political system.
