Toronto, Ontario, August 10, 2015 – More than 1,600 delegates from hundreds of municipalities and other organizations across Ontario will participate in the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s 2015 AMO Conference, August 16 to 19 in Niagara Falls at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, 6815 Stanley Avenue.

The Association’s annual Conference is Ontario’s foremost educational forum for municipal governments. In total, the program features close to 60 plenary and workshop sessions covering a range of topics that reflect the broad scope of municipal responsibilities. Keynote presenters include:

  • Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario
  • Hon. Ted McMeekin, Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • Hon. Yasir Naqvi, Ontario’s Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services
  • Hon. Glen Murray, Ontario’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change
  • Patrick Brown, Leader of the Ontario PC Party
  • Andrea Horwath, Leader of the Ontario NDP
  • Anthony D. Williams, best-selling author of Macrowikinomics: New Solutions for a Connected Planet, will explore how government can leverage untapped sources of innovation
  • Preet Banerjee, author, neuroscientist and television host will speak on the economy: the numbers and what lies beneath them
  • Dr. Katherine Loflin, world renowned leader in “place making,” will speak about community building
The annual conference is a chance for municipal officials to work together to address shared challenges, to learn and to create new opportunities. In addition to the conference program, municipal staff and officials will take part in more than 300 delegation meetings with provincial and federal ministries.

Key session topics include local infrastructure and asset management, railway and pipeline safety in Ontario communities, trends in pension benefits, the sharing economy, MPAC, living options for seniors and ranked ballots for municipal elections.
