In an effort to address the changing profile of many of Ontario’s schools and communities, the Ministry of Education released guidelines that encourage optimizing the use of school space.
The Facility Partnership Guidelines aim to develop partnerships between school boards and community partners-both for profit and not for profit- in an effort to address emerging community pressures and challenges facing school boards. Filling unused space that is not surplus in open and operating schools can address local enrolment changes and will help in making the best use of public assets while supporting educational achievements of students.

The intention of this initiative is that creating new partnerships will help to reduce operating costs and maximize the use of public infrastructure, improve services and supports for students and strengthen relationships between schools and community partners.

While not a panacea, the Facility Partnership Guidelines attempts to address emerging pressures in Ontario’s communities including the best use of tax payer dollars.
