AMO Federal Pre-Budget Submission: The Tax System the Country Needs for a Prosperous Future to the Standing Committee on Finance (FINA).
In Ontario, the health and sustainability of local municipalities is threatened by an untenable arrangement whereby roughly half of all municipal property tax dollars are siphoned from the municipal treasury to supplement Ontario Provincial programs and services including health programs, social services and education.

With little other means of generating revenue, this leaves Ontario municipalities to carry billions in costs that ought to be provincial costs. While these fiscal arrangements have financed balanced provincial budgets, they continue to divert billions in municipal revenues away from municipal budgets and municipal services.
