About AMO

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is a non-profit organization representing Ontario’s municipal governments.  AMO supports and enhances strong and effective municipal government in Ontario and promotes the value of municipal government as a vital and essential component of Ontario and Canada’s political system.

Local Authority Services Limited (LAS) is a subsidiary of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.  LAS is responsible for developing and marketing innovative and beneficial services and programs to the municipal sector, whereby the objective is to reduce the cost of common expenditures and to increase revenues through economies-of-scale. 


Policy Intern

Assisting senior policy advisors and the Director of Policy, the successful candidate will support AMO’s policy development process.  The job will require research, analysis, report writing, project planning and coordination.  The Intern will help identify issues of importance to municipal government and help demonstrate impacts of the issues and appropriate responses.  The Policy Intern will also assist with the development and implementation of AMO’s August 2012 Annual Conference in Ottawa.  The Policy Intern will also participate in the implementation of the AMO-Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Ontario on consultation, including participation in meetings with provincial Cabinet Ministers.    

A university degree in public administration, economics, environmental studies, social policy, planning, or related discipline is preferred.  Statistical and analytical skills, knowledge of municipal government, superior written and verbal communications and effective client relations will benefit applicants.

The Internship is a temporary position of up to 17 weeks. 

Remuneration is $21 per hour for a 35 hour week.
