IMMIGRATION

Currently, Ontario is the only province or territory without an immigration agreement with the federal government. Many provinces and territories have signed agreements extended over “indefinite” periods. In 2005, Canada and Ontario signed a four-year, $920 million agreement. Extended for two years, the Canada Ontario Immigration Agreement (COIA) has now lapsed.

A signed Agreement is imperative. In our globally competitive world, developing processes and policies that attract newcomers to Ontario and get them to Ontario in a timely way, is more important than ever. An agreement that sees all orders of government working towards an effective immigration system is in everyone’s best interest.
