Municipal Communications
Requirements
According to the Municipal Funding Agreement,
communications is primarily a municipal responsibility. AMO has
negotiated communication guidelines based on the total funding each
municipality receives to streamline the expectations under the
communications protocol outlined in Schedule “F” of the
Municipal Funding Agreement. For more information, see the FAQ
on Communications.
Municipalities can use the Municipal Communications
Toolkit to help promote the Gas Tax Fund. To access this resource,

Construction Signage
Municipalities are required to place construction signage at Gas Tax
project sites. Please submit proofs to AMO for the necessary
approvals.
Please contact AMO for high-resolution logos and pantone colour details.

Permanent Signage
Municipalities are required to have permanent signage that recognizes
the contributions of the Gas Tax Fund. There is no standard template,
but signage must be bilingual and must contain the wordmark and tagline
of the Government of Canada. Please submit proofs to AMO for the
necessary approvals.
The requirement for permanent signage differs based upon the Gas Tax
Funds that a municipality receives:
-
Municipalities receiving over $500,000 in federal gas
tax revenue over the five years (2005-10), project signs must be
produced and permanently displayed in prominent locations related to the
funded projects. All signs must meet the requirements outlined in
Schedule “F” of the Municipal Funding Agreement.
Municipalities can also comply by displaying signage that corresponds
appropriately with the size of the contribution. It is not
expected that a disproportionate amount of costs be undertaken for the
production and installation of signage.
-
Municipalities receiving less than $500,000 in federal
gas tax revenue over the five years can comply by having a permanent
plaque/sign displayed at the project site or alternative public location
such as the mayor’s office, city hall or at the city limits.
In instances where federal gas tax revenue will be used within your
municipality to fund various projects, one sign may be developed to
indicate the total funding dollars at work in your community, while
continuing to meet project sign requirements.
