Investment Education Session – What all municipalities should know!

MFOA and LAS are pleased to partner in offering a NEW one-day seminar designed to help municipal staff and elected officials develop / refresh your understanding of the investment options available to Ontario municipalities. The sessions will include a review of available municipal investment tools, market commentary related to investment options, discussion of investment strategies, and an overview of available educational resources for the public sector.

This seminar is designed for municipal staff (new and veteran) in the areas of administration and finance, as well as elected officials, who are interested in enhancing their understanding of investment options for municipalities as well as their local boards and committees.  

What will be covered?

Topics that will be covered include::

  • Municipal investment guidelines
  • Principles of cash management
  • Money market, bond and equity investment options
  • How to develop an investment strategy
  • Investment and ROI accounting
  • Investment planning
  • Diversification
  • Using investments to plan for longer term infrastructure projects
  • Economic updates from market experts

This session should also be considered by administrators and finance officials of conservation authorities, DSSABs, and other organizations within Ontario’s broader public sector.
