LAS offers a Closed Meeting
Investigator Service to any interested Ontario municipality.
Currently 135 local governments take advantage of this cost
effective LAS program.
This program helps municipalities
proactively respond to 2008 changes to the Municipal Act related to 'Closed Meeting' Investigations, which allow
for any person to request that an investigation be undertaken
respecting whether a municipality, local board, or a committee of
either, has complied with the closed meeting rules contained within the
Act.
LAS chose to offer this service
because it is complementary to our existing program of providing
services where value can be enhanced through group procurement, and
because it helps to demonstrate that municipalities are mature,
accountable orders of government, capable of managing their own
affairs.
To deliver this program, LAS has
contracted a third party, Amberley Gavel Ltd., to ensure a consistent
standard of service to all participants and across all
investigations.
All members of this program will
be provided with benefits such as educational information related to
the 'Closed Meeting' provisions of the Municipal Act as well as access
to completed reports via a password protected website.
PLEASE NOTE:
Existing program members - invoices for the 2012 and 2013 program
year retainer fee will be sent out in August 2011.

Testimonials
"The LAS program was chosen by my municipality because it ensures
a high quality, professional examination of any closed meeting complaint
received. I also find significant value in the quality of the education
materials and completed investigation reports that are made available to
program members."
Chris Wray, CAO-Clerk-Treasurer
Municipality of Wawa
“The LAS program has been beneficial for our
municipality. I frequent the member website once or twice a month
to look at the frequently asked questions and reference sections.
This information has been very useful to me in my day-to-day work and
has proven to be extremely beneficial to me and my
department.”
Tanya Lamb, Clerk
Township of Wainfleet
