LAS MUNICIPAL ENERGY PERFORMANCE BENCHMARKING PROJECT

Best in Class Award Winners

LAS and over 140 municipalities have worked with Marbek Consultants since October 2008 on the Energy Performance Benchmarking Project. Data from 393 municipal facilities across Ontario was compiled and analyzed throughout 2009. We identified the top performing facility in each of 12 categories and carried out site visits in Winter 2010 to both confirm the Benchmarking Results and to develop materials for resultant case studies. The site visits consisted of two major components: a discussion with building operator/occupants, and a walkthrough of major mechanical areas or other sections of interest. The analysis focused on not just installed equipment but on how the occupants used the equipment as well as the spaces.

LAS is very pleased to announce that the following facilities were deemed to be the Best in Class - click on the building name to download the Best in Class Report (over 1MB each):

What is the purpose of this designation?

Energy management is at the heart of municipal sustainability efforts because it leads to reductions in operating costs and greenhouse gases while improving employee comfort and equipment reliability. LAS is pleased to recognize some of the leading lights in the municipal sector in terms of integrated energy management.

Like the staff in each of these 12 Best in Class Facilities, LAS is also interested in continuous improvement. The 12 case studies were developed to help improve the energy efficiency of both the profiled facilities as well as the hundreds of similar facilities in municipalities all across the province by examining the reasons behind this strong performance. The case studies provide all municipalities in the province with actionable energy management opportunities.
