PROGRAM proceedings

The AMO 2020 program included a combination of live-interactive and pre-recorded sessions. All conference proceedings are available for Conference delegates to view on-demand, which means, for the first time, delegates will have access to 100% of the program content to view at leisure.  You will require the same login you used to attend the virtual conference.

The 2020 AMO conference was delivered in partnership with TVO. AMO worked in partnership with the team at The Agenda with Steve Paikin - TVO’s flagship current affairs program—to deliver a virtual conference like no other. Important responsibilities at the conference, including hosting, MC and moderator roles, was provided by the team at The Agenda.

AMO’s Youth Engagement Networking Session

AMO is pleased to host its first virtual conference Youth Engagement Networking Session. For the second year, conference delegates are welcome to join discussions on issues and topics of importance around young, municipally and politically engaged individuals. Co-hosted by the 2020 AMO Youth Fellows, alongside the session’s host, City of Oakville Councillor and AMO’s Youth Advisory Council member, Jasvinder Sadhu, this session is an opportunity to connect, share and plan on strengthening the role of youth in Ontario’s municipal landscape. AMO is pleased to continue work on the Youth Engagement Strategy and looks forward to hosting opportunities such as this one.

Jamil Jivani, Advocate for Community Opportunities and Special Advisor to the PremierJamil Jivani is an award-winning author, activist and lawyer who has been appointed by the Premier of Ontario to lead important change in addressing inequity and racism in Ontario.  Appointed as the province’s Advocate for Community Opportunities, Mr. Jivani is working to build bridges between vulnerable communities and the government of Ontario.

In June, Mr. Jivani was given the additional responsibility of leading the Premier’s Council on Equality of Opportunity. In this role Mr. Jivani will focus on breaking down barriers for Black, Indigenous and racialized students to provide all students with an equal opportunity to succeed.  

As Mr. Jivani gives voice and action for Ontario’s disadvantaged and disenfranchised communities, his presentation at AMO will provide insight into his objectives and strategies for doing so. This insightful session is an opportunity for AMO delegates to understand the opportunities their role provides in moving this important change forward.
