Social media is both powerful and dangerous in times of crisis. It allows you to share accurate updates, but it can just as easily create confusion and add to the chaos. The key is to include social media in your crisis communications plan so that you’re not scrambling to create content in a high-pressure situation. We will draw on real-life examples to guide you through social media use during a crisis.

Even the most minor issue can become unmanageable when false claims and misinformation are spread through a local Facebook group. Almost every issues management scenario now includes a social media component. This webinar will help you learn how to navigate angry online groups with practical advice to maintain a positive reputation and come out ahead.
 
October 9: You vs. Social Media  - 12 - 1 p.m.
Think about how many different social network platforms there are and how many you are on, your municipality is on and every member of Council is on. With so much communication being done through social networks, what are the legal obligations that arise from the use of these sites, both for the site itself and more importantly to you, the user? Influence for good, and the right (legal) way and hear some true-life examples of where things have and could go wrong.
 
November 6: Creating Compelling Content - 12 - 1 p.m.
With thousands of social media posts issued every second, competition for your audience’s attention is fierce. We’ll draw on plenty of real-life examples to illustrate the type of content that is shared versus posts that fall flat. This session will include tips on writing for social media, the importance of plain language, taking good photos and videos, and how to navigate live streaming.
