Local Government Week - October 18 - 22, 2021

Commemoration October 18, 2021

Understanding municipal government is to appreciate the range of services provided to residents and business community. While some refer to municipal government as the third order of government, anyone that has ever served on a council or worked within its administration will say it’s the first order of government - it is the order of government closest to the people. The week is meant to educate students on the importance and operation of municipal government, but one is never too old to learn.

We All Win
We all winThe Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is marking Local Government Week by launching an initiative to encourage more candidates from diverse communities to run in the 2022 municipal elections. The campaign, called “We all Win,” promotes the understanding that municipal governments serve the public better when they reflect the diversity of their communities. Having the voice of diverse genders and identities, ethnicities, races, sexual orientations, ages, and abilities and more around the council table is key to building inclusive and sustainable communities across the province.
