Associate Director, Communications
Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO)
Toronto | Hybrid work arrangement (approx. 2 days/week in office)
Salary: $169,870 – $198,726 + OMERS pension + benefits
AMO represents Ontario’s municipal governments and works every day to strengthen the role municipalities play in our democratic system.
We are looking for a senior communications leader to build something new.
This is an opportunity to create and lead AMO’s in-house communications function from the ground up — shaping the strategy, building the team, and setting the culture for a modern, high performing communications department that supports municipal advocacy across Ontario.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Associate Director will design and execute AMO’s communications strategy, help position the organization as the leading voice of municipal government in Ontario, and ensure municipal priorities are communicated clearly to government, media, stakeholders, and the public.
You will hire the team, build the structure, and establish the standards for how AMO communicates — from media relations and digital strategy to speeches, reports, and public affairs.
We are looking for someone who brings:
• Significant experience in strategic communications, media relations, or public affairs
• Strong political acuity and understanding of municipal and provincial government
• Exceptional writing and messaging skills across formats
• Experience building and leading high-performing teams
• The confidence to advise senior leaders and execute under pressure
• A clear commitment to public service and the value of municipal government
Bilingual French/English is considered an asset.
AMO offers a collaborative, mission-driven workplace and the opportunity to help shape the public conversation about Ontario’s municipalities.
Join us — and help build the voice of municipal government in Ontario.
