Barbara Dobreen for AMO County Caucus 2026-2028

First elected as a Councillor in 2014, Barbara Dobreen now serves as Deputy Mayor for the Township of Southgate and as a Grey County Councillor. As a member of the AMO County Caucus since March 2023, Barbara brings an important rural perspective to provincial municipal discussions and is known for being well-prepared, thoughtful, and actively engaged.

A dedicated champion of community service and collaboration, Barbara has supported initiatives that strengthen local communities, including the establishment of a Youth Action Committee, addressing unprecedented growth and Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs), creating supportive housing opportunities, and advocating for a local four-year nursing program.
As a Grey County Councillor, Barbara has been part of an upper-tier municipality recognized for its collaborative and innovative approach to addressing complex challenges. Grey County has demonstrated leadership by working across municipal boundaries to advance shared priorities, including innovative housing initiatives, the exploration of a four-county regional transportation solution, and creative long-term care strategies that have attracted attention from municipalities across Ontario. These experiences have provided Barbara with valuable insight into the opportunities and challenges facing both upper- and lower-tier municipalities and have strengthened the perspective she brings to AMO discussions.

In addition to being a mentor in the 2024 AMO Youth Fellowship Program, Barbara serves on a number of committees and boards beyond AMO, including Grey Bruce Board of Health, Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority and Community Services Committee. She values the importance of a strong, collective municipal voice when provincial decisions affect local governments, the environment, and the residents they serve.

Barbara firmly believes that all regions and geographies must be represented at the AMO table and is eager to continue her advocacy through the AMO County Caucus. By supporting the important work of AMO, she believes municipalities can work to build healthy and resilient futures for communities across Ontario.
