Derek Burke Biography

Derek Burke serves as Director of Public Works for the Township of Severn, where he provides strategic leadership for the municipal transportation network, water and wastewater systems, stormwater management, fleet services, and asset management. He is responsible for aligning service delivery with Council priorities while ensuring regulatory compliance, infrastructure sustainability, and effective operations.

With more than 15 years in municipal government, Derek has direct experience translating plans and policies into effective, on-the-ground outcomes for the community. He understands the unique challenges facing rural municipalities, including limited capacity, dispersed systems, and increasing regulatory demands. He is committed to contributing grounded insight to help clearly articulate municipal perspectives and support strong, effective advocacy for rural communities.
