Local Government Week - October 19-25 2025

Resource

October 19-25, 2025 is Local Government Week. We want to celebrate you and all of the great work that your municipality is doing everyday to make life happen in our communities. From tackling issues that communities care about most to providing clean drinking water and safe roads, to parks, public transit, and emergency services - local governments make it happen.

This week is also about understanding who does what (what’s municipal vs provincial vs federal) and why it matters. When we know how local government works, we can better engage, strengthen our communities, and advocate for the fair funding municipalities need to keep delivering the services and infrastructure that Ontarians rely on.

Check out some resources, tools, and ideas to help your municipality celebrate, connect with residents, and highlight the incredible work happening in your community.

KEY RESOURCES:

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED:

  • Celebrate your municipality, your staff, and the great work you're doing on social media:

  • Tag AMO and use #LocalGovWeek to share photos of your municipal celebrations

  • Book visits with local schools (see the civic education resources above for curriculum documents and conversation guides)

  • Attend key events and integrate learnings within your community:

  • Promote young people in municipal politics - encourage folks to apply for the 2026 AMO Youth Fellowship program, details to apply linked here.

We want to celebrate you! If you have any pictures of your municipality's Local Government Week celebrations (school visits, coffee chats, community milestones etc.) please send them to amo@amo.on.ca, we would love to share them.

Together, let's make the most of #LocalGovWeek.
