
AMO Recognizes September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission final report included 94 Calls to Action to redress the legacy of residential schools and advance the process of Canadian reconciliation. In 2021, the Federal Government declared September 30th and a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (National Orange Shirt Day) and a federal holiday.
AMO acknowledges this important date and has created a variety of resources to support municipalities in advancing the process of Canadian reconciliation, including:
- AMO’s Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan (IRAP) represents AMO’s next major, concrete step towards reconciliation. This plan reflects AMO’s commitment to fostering relationships, listening, learning, and honouring Indigenous Peoples’ rights. AMO’s Indigenous Advisory Council initiated and guided the Plan’s development and will continue to inform its implementation over the coming years.
